Paleo diet food list

May 8th, 2011

The paleo diet is about making certain food choices, depending on how our paleolithic ancestors were likely to eat. We can’t really tell for sure exactly what they ate, but we can make some assumptions that are probably pretty accurate. These are the foods that the paleo diet is usually based around.

There are also some foods that most people doing the paleo diet find that they can eat in moderation without any problems, and I recommend eating these foods since many of them have also been shown to have certain health benefits.

Paleolithic nutrition and modern foods

May 8th, 2011

In modern times, it is next to impossible to eat exactly the same thing our paleolithic ancestors ate, unless if we live in the wild and hunt or gather every single piece of food. That would probably be close to a full-time job, and definitely not a feasible choice for a lot of people today.

Paleolithic nutrition did consist of foods that were available, and harvestable in nature. This includes wild animals (not just grass-fed, but completely wild), wild plants, seeds, insects and in some places it was possible to find nuts and fruits when they were in season (definitely not year-round).

Delicious and healthy paleo treats

May 8th, 2011

The paleo diet pretty much revolves around eating what we are genetically adapted to, but life isn’t much fun without some tasty treats every now and then. But tasty and sweet things don’t need to be loaded with wheat, hydrogenated oils and processed sugar, it is possible to make awesome paleo treats with healthy ingredients.

I still wouldn’t say that these kinds of paleo treats are any sort of optimal food for humans to eat, and even though they are healthier than regular pastries and candy, they still aren’t what the paleo diet is about. However, I’d much rather recommend eating treats that are made of (practically) paleo ingredients such as organic chocolate and cream, than some of the horrible ingredients found in modern food.

Paleo Diet for weight loss

May 8th, 2011

The paleo diet has been becoming increasingly popular since the release of “The Paleo Diet” by Dr. Loren Cordain. Since then, a lot of books have been written on the subject, for example the Protein Power series, The Paleo Solution, The Primal Blueprint, and many, many more.

It is not surprising that this way of eating has become so popular, because people are having awesome results with it. This isn’t really a weight loss diet, but a type of lifestyle that is easily sustainable in the long run. The main objective of the paleo diet is eating food that humans were genetically adapted to, in order to avoid suffering from modern diseases of civilization.

Important Paleo Diet benefits

May 7th, 2011

The paleo diet has a lot of health benefits for humans, which seems logical since it is a way of eating that humans have been genetically well adapted to. These health benefits come in many forms, and a quick scan of the many paleo diet chat forums show large groups of people who have had their lives and health changed by this diet.

A lot of these results are anecdotal, but there have been scientific studies done on many critical factors and they have been very promising.

Delicious Paleo Diet snacks

May 7th, 2011

One of the more difficult things in following the paleo diet, is finding healthy food to eat during the day. Obviously, we don’t always have the time or resources to cook whole and nutritious meals. Finding things to bring when leaving the house can be a bit of a challenge.

However, there are plenty of paleo approved things that can be eaten on the go. Number one I would say is leftovers, but taking leftovers from dinner the night before in a lunchbox to school is something I’ve done many times.

Paleo Diet Breakfast tips

May 6th, 2011

When we get up in the morning, we usually don’t feel that we have a lot of time to spend on cooking. We’re usually in a hurry to get to school or work or even to get the kids up and away. That’s why we need to have something that can be prepared and eaten quickly in the morning.

What people on a standard diet eat in the mornings usually consists of something like cereals or bread. When doing the paleo diet, that is obviously not an option. A paleo diet breakfast needs to consist of some natural foods, and it needs to be prepared quickly.

Is the paleo diet healthy?

May 6th, 2011

The paleo diet is based upon the premise that us humans are genetically the same as our paleolithic ancestors, and should therefore try to mimic their diet and lifestyle in order to improve health. This includes eating a lot of animals, and animals contain saturated fat. Therefore some people may have some concerns about the health effects of the paleo diet since they’ve been led to believe that saturated fat causes heart disease.

So is the paleo diet healthy? Short answer: Yes.

The paleo diet is most certainly healthy, since it includes food that human beings have been well adapted to eat. It seems logical that this sort of diet would be more healthy than the traditional western diet and even the diet recommended by most nutritionists. It simply makes evolutionary sense.

A sample Paleo Diet menu

May 6th, 2011

If you’ve just recently become familiar with the paleo diet then you may wonder what a typical paleo dieter eats in a day. When you completely change all your food selections, you may at first have a difficult time time coming up with foods to eat.

As you know, the paleo diet does not allow grains, processed vegetable oils, peanuts, legumes or processed foods. Grains are such a big part of the standard western diet that it may seem strange to go without them at firs. When you create a paleo diet menu, then you need to compose your meals of meats, eggs, fish, fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds.

Which paleo diet foods should I eat?

March 27th, 2011

The paleo diet is short for the paleolithic diet. It is based upon the premise that human beings have been evolving for hundreds of thousands of years, while our modern diet has only been around for about 10,000 years. It is a scientific fact that the human genome hasn’t changed much at all since those times, and therefore we are pretty much genetically the same as our ancestors.

It basically revolves around eating the same way as our paleolithic ancestors did, before the agricultural and industrial revolutions.
